Oasis

It is said that the oasis is the result of the library and not vice versa: the natural caves in the area created a sinkhole, and those carving out dwellings in prehistory brought the water to the surface. It springs from deep below the Disc. Scholars have been studying the depths for a long time, and a grate has been added to the lowest part of the sinkhole to prevent items sinking below. It is routinely cleaned out by scholars.

Several unique species of fish live in different strata of the Sinking Oasis, along with snails, (etc). There is a rock burrowing eel that lives below the grate. Currently scholars are puzzling together an effective way to study life deeper than the grate; currently they do not have a way to deal with water pressure and have difficulty maintaining air below. One scholar may be attempting to make portable gills using fine fabrics to create membranes. It is not working.
